Maple SugarFest
The official web site is http://www.sugarbushvanier.com/ This 17.5-acre parkland (in the middle of the city) features several varieties of Canada’s wonderful maple trees. The maples are tapped and used to produce the syrup served at the events that take place during the festival. The first sugar shack was built in the 1950s by the White Fathers of Africa. This burnt down and was rebuilt in 1998 by a community organization called Action Vanier. The sap from the maples surrounding the Sugar Shack is collected the 'old-fashioned' way - buckets are hung on the tree taps and when full, carried up to the sugar shack. From oceans of maple syrup and pancakes served for brunch at the Richelieu Park sugar bush, to legendary Jo Maple Lumberjack competitions on stage, the public will have tons of excitement! The sugar bush boutique is open all weekend long with sugar treats on sale. Wagon rides, a petting zoo, music, a kid’s craft corner and many more activities abound at the Park.
