Papanack Zoo

The Zoo is a family owned and operated facility that has been breeding exotic animals and birds since the early 1980’s. In 1994, public curiosity prompted them to have a one-year trial opening to the public, and due to the motivating response that they received from the visitors that year, they decided to continue to ‘grow’ Papanack Animal Park, resulting in The Papanack Park Zoo you see today.

	The zoo has a few rules but the most important rule relates to Sweetie, the White-Fronted Marmoset who died from eating poisonous red berries that had been picked from a bush and fed to her by one of our visitors. They were probably unaware of the consequences of their actions so please do not pick flowers and grasses to feed the animals – it can be fatal.

Papanack Zoo is a private facility which does not receive funding from the Government or other agencies, they are essentially a non-profit organization with all the proceeds from gate admissions, souvenirs, snacks, etc. going back into improving and expanding the zoo.

Directions:
Drive 25 minutes east of Orleans (Place d'Orleans Shopping Center) on Highway 174 to Wendover / Pendleton. Exit south on County Road 19, the Zoo is 1 km on the the left.

May 11:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. (from Victoria Day)
June 11:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
July 10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
August 10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
September 11:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m.
October 11:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m (until Thanksgiving )

There is a snack bar named "Crispin's" offering hotdogs, pogos, french fries, poutine, soft drinks etc. At the Ice Cream stand you can purchase ice cream, cold drinks, Slush Puppies, snacks etc. You can also bring your own picnic lunch. Picnic tables are available. The only cold drinking water available is bottled spring water.

Programs:
Night Safari - Every Saturday night until Thanksgiving, hear wolves howl and see lions feast as you tour the zoo when it comes to life as night falls.

Camping - Your assigned Keeper and Guide for the weekend will take you on an educational adventure at the Zoo.

Junior Zoo Keeper camp - A unique and exciting ‘educational adventure’ for young people 8 years and older. This week long, day camp offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for a behind the scenes look at the workings of a Zoo.
